One of the challenges of Italy for me has been finding premium white wines that can be offered to Italian Restaurants for retail alongside the likes of Barolo, Barbaresco, Chianti, etc. They are very hard to identify.

For a long time I have suspected that there must exist an essentially "alpine" producer making characterful but delicate and complex whites such as we see in Austria and Germany. So a Germanic producer but in Italy (with the essential "Product of Italy" on the label for my restaurant customers).

And here he is!

A family concern for nearly a century, Zemmer's wines are from grapes grown relatively low down in them there hills. They come with that clarity, brightness and purity that we take for granted from cooler climates and that southern Italy can struggle to produce.
